Apostille
Since China joined the Apostille Convention on 7 November 2023, documents for member countries need a single apostille instead of embassy legalization.
An apostille certifies the signature and seal on a public document. For public documents issued in China and used in a member country, the apostille is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an authorised local foreign affairs office, and the destination accepts it directly.
It also works the other way: documents from member countries that carry an apostille can be used in China, together with a certified Chinese translation.
Private documents such as powers of attorney or declarations usually need notarising first to become public documents. We plan the full route for each document type.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use an apostille for my destination country?
It depends on whether the country is a member and whether the convention applies between it and China. Check our country pages or ask us; we confirm case by case.
Do I still need the embassy after an apostille?
No. The apostille replaces consular legalization, which is the main benefit of the convention.
What about Hong Kong and Macau documents?
Hong Kong and Macau each have their own apostille authorities, and we can arrange both.
